In addition to its Mission, Vision and Values and Code of Conduct, The Leaside Hockey Association encourages and promotes safety for its members and volunteers through the following programs:

  • Speak Out Program - It is the policy of the LHA that all members of all team staffs are required to take an Abuse and Harassment course when they become staff members
  • Police Reference Checks - It is the policy of the LHA that all members of all team staffs undergo a police reference check when they become staff members
  • Accident Prevention - The LHA endorses and supports safe hockey and encourages its members to follow the procedures and recommendations in Hockey Canada's "Safety Requires Teamwork" guidelines (see "Accident Prevention Presentation" below)

In event of an accident which results in injury or loss, LHA directors, officers, coaching staffs and players that are "registered" with the GTHL have the benefit of the Hockey Canada insurance program . An Executive Summary and more detailed Presentation on the Hockey Canada Insurance Program are attached below.

"Registration" with the GTHL is completed annually:

  • For LHA directors, officers, coaching staff members (House League, Select and GTHL), "registration" is completed by the submission of names and addresses to the GTHL by the LHA Secretary
  • For Select and GTHL teams, registration is completed by the filing of team lists with the GTHL by the VP Select and VP GTHL
  • Hockey School and House League players are "registered" automatically through the LHA's on-line Quick Enrollment registration system.
  • Parents and casual volunteers should be aware that they do not have coverage under the Hockey Canada insurance program and, that participation in any of the LHA's programs is at their "own risk".

Injury Reporting

The Hockey Canada Insurance Program requires that:

  • ALL injuries be reported to the GTHL using the Injury Report Form below
  • No player who has suffered a concussion may return to play without filing a Return to Play Form (see below) with the GTHL. A Return to Play Form is not required to the submitted with in connection with any other type of injury

Head injuries and concussions, in particular, are a very serious form of injury. The LHA strongly supports and endorses the GTHL's Head Injury Policy (see attached below).

The filing of an Injury Report form with the GTHL is required to ensure that insurance coverage is available in the event of injury. Failure to file an Injury Report Form can result in a loss of coverage under the Hockey Canada Insurance Program.

The filing of Injury Report forms with the GTHL is the responsibility of LHA Hockey School staff, House League coaching staffs, Select team coaching staffs and GTHL coaching staffs, as applicable.

In addition to the above filing requirements, in the event of a concussion team staffs are also required to provide a copy of the Injury Report Form and the Return to Play Form filed with the GTHL to the LHA VP House League, VP Select and VP GTHL, as applicable, as soon as possible.
