Leaside Hockey Speaker Series
We recognize the growing and cumulative impact of COVID-19. Many in our community are mentally exhausted, isolated, and anxious. Now, more than ever, we need to foster a strong sense of community, care, and connectedness. To that end, we are excited to announce the Leaside Hockey Association Speaker Series, a new initiative designed to bring our community together so that we can be uplifted and inspired by some of the most recognizable leaders in sports, including Sportsnet’s Caroline Cameron, four time Olympic gold medallist Jayna Hefford, 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist and Sportnet’s Cassie Campbell-Pascal and elite mental performance coach, Jean Francois Ménard. We will kick off our Speaker Series on Thursday February 18 at 7:00pm. Each session will include time for a question and answer period.
On February 18th at 7pm we will kick off the series with the powerhouse trio of Jayna Hefford, Caroline Cameron and Cassie Campbell-Pascall.
Jayna Hefford, a Kingston native and graduate of the University of Toronto, is currently a mom to one of our LHA players and Leaside Wildcats. Jayna is a five-time Olympian, four-time Olympic gold medallist, and recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Award for her community involvement. Known for her humanitarian work, she founded the Jayna Hefford Links 4 Life Golf Golf Classic, which raises thousands of dollars for palliative and cancer care. Jayna works with various charities and has been a proud supporter of Canadians Hockey Associations Initiation Programs.
Caroline Cameron is a host on Sportsnet. She started her career as a reporter and producer for Rogers TV in London, ON, then moved to The Fan as an intern at Sportsnet 590. From the Stanley Cup Playoffs to Wimbledon coverage to the Olympic Games, Caroline has shared some of Canada’s biggest sports moments with the country. Caroline is a proud ambassador of KidsSport BC and KidsSport ON, and a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends Canada.
Cassie Campbell-Pascall is a 2-time Olympic gold medallist, 6-time World Hockey Champion, and winner of 21 international medals representing Canada. She is the first woman to do colour commentary on a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast and is perhaps most recognizable because of her current broadcast work on Rogers Sportsnet. Cassie also avidly gives back to her community. She ran an Annual Street Hockey Tournament in Calgary for Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta that raised over $3.5 million, and is a proud Supporter of CARE Canada and World Vision. She is married to the Assistant General Manager of the Calgary Flames and currently resides in Calgary, Alberta. Cassie also has worked for Flames TV, Fan 960 in Calgary, the NHL Network, and the CBC.
