THE SELECT PROGRAM: U10-U18
for players born 2004-2012
Note: For information on the LHA's competitive program for children 6-8 years old (2013-2015), please see Competitive Development Stream.
The Select Division of the LHA provides an opportunity for House League players to participate in competitive hockey. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, fair, and inclusive team experience in a community environment. Our programs are delivered exclusively by our committed volunteers who put in many hours to coach and manage our teams.
Tryouts for our Select teams for the 2021/22 season will begin on October 1. See the schedule posted to the right. The LHA is mindful of abiding by the restricted number of players allowed on-ice at our facilities and will be following all necessary Covid protocols. Tryouts take place at Leaside arena (1073 Millwood Rd., Toronto, ON, M4G 1X6) and the Hockey Factory Vic Park (3552 Victoria Park Ave, North York, ON, M2H 2N5).
A player must be registered for House League to be eligible to attend tryouts. Our tryouts are run by a third-party invigilator. No teams are selected or spots offered prior to tryouts, with the exception of (1) the player of the Head Coach, and (2) the player of one other team staff member as designated by the Head Coach. For further clarity, Head Coaches are prohibited from recruiting or offering spots to players prior to the tryout evaluation.
Goalie tryouts on the Friday provide time for the invigilator and head coaches to focus on observing them. Goalies must also attend the regular team tryouts on Saturday, according to their age group, and again on Sunday, depending on the invite. The U12-U15 tryouts begin on Saturday with potential players for both teams of an age group together on-ice in two sessions according to the player’s last name. Players who make it to the second day of tryouts will then be invited to either the Red team or Gold team tryout on Sunday. The U16-U18 teams each have one tryout on Saturday only, divided into two sessions by player last name. These tryouts are labeled Final in the schedule.
Players who make a Select team must also play in our House League at the same time. As a Select team member, players have the benefit of additional practice time and participation in games within the North York Hockey League (NYHL). Additionally, teams may enter local or away tournaments each season.
Operation of our Select Division is overseen by the VP and GM of Select Hockey. For more information on our Select program, please see the Select FAQs or contact our Select Coordinator, Catherine: firstname.lastname@example.org.
