Program Overview

Hockey School introduces our youngest players to the game of hockey. Our priority is to provide a fun and safe learning environment so children can develop a love for the game while their skills improve. Run by professional coaches from Healy Hockey Solutions, the LHA Hockey School is aligned with Hockey Canada's Long Term Player Development Model.

We start with a solid foundation in skating and build on it by adding a variety of skills involving puck control, including passing and shooting. Once a skill is introduced, we expand and refine the skill at each player's individual pace using a wide variety of techniques including play-based drills, small area games, and half ice competitions.

We believe the ability to skate is so fundamental to hockey that the LHA is pleased to offer a Learn to Play program for children in the U5 to U8 age group who have little to no skating experience or previous exposure to hockey. Specific skating instruction will be given to groups of similar skating abilities and players can advance to a higher level of the program, including Hockey School, whenever they are ready.

For children in the U7 - U9 age groups who are looking for a more competitive hockey experience, we strongly encourage parents to consider our Competitive Development Stream (CDS) Program. CDS is an extension of the LHA Hockey School and, in addition to the weekly Hockey School instruction, CDS players are placed with children of similar ability on a team that practices and competes weekly against other clubs in the CDS league.  CDS is an additional commitment of time and cost beyond that of Hockey School or House League.
